Installation of sheet vinyl using Cove Formers & Capping Strips

The Tarkett-Marley sheet vinyl should be coved up all walls in one continuous sheet. Do not allow for a separate infill for coving, except for external corners or where the natural join will fall short of the wall. Ensure when installing into the cove former that the material is securely bonded to the radius of the former. Do not allow any voids between these surfaces. Should any voids be present, remove section from wall and cove and re adhere. Always roll all the coved sections with a suitable hand roller to ensure the correct bond with the contact adhesive and the Altro safety flooring.

Internal Mitre

  1. Push the flooring as far as possible into the internal corner.
  2. Make a cut from the base out to the top of the flooring in line with the mitre.
  3. Fold in one side and gradually cut off the surplus material to complete the first part of the mitre.
  4. Fold in the second side and gradually cut in until the mitre is complete, then heat weld.

External Mitre
Either the Infill Boot type or the Butterfly Type methods can achieve these. Both require a separate infill piece at the external mitre.

Infill Boot Type
This type of infill requires that the piece is fitted to only one side of the external corner, with the seams at the external point of the corner and on the floor surface approximately 50mm from the wall.

  1. Roughly cut the flooring oversize to meet the required section.
  2. Cut in the back and front mitre, then, cut out the section to take the make out piece.
  3. Fold in one side and gradually cut off the surplus material to complete the first part of the mitre.
  4. Cut in the front of the external mitre, making sure the natural ''V'' is allowed at this point to allow for correct welding. All other parts of the infill piece require grooving prior to welding.

Butterfly Type
This type of infill requires that the section fitted be cut at a 45° to both sides of the external corner.

  1. Install material along one side of the external corner.
  2. Using an angle template cut the material at 45° from the point of the corner.
  3. Fold the material around the corner.
  4. Use the template to cut a 90° fill piece from a pre-adhered piece of scrap material.
  5. Groove the back of the fill piece where it wraps around at the external point of the corner to aid in forming the corner.
  6. Groove all seams using the angle template as a guide and heat weld as described elsewhere.
